Sara Gibson is Co-Founder and CEO of 20°, a management consulting company that helps nonprofits, childcare providers and social enterprises extend income beyond philanthropy. A Saint Mary’s College Alumni, Sara is a strategic, collaborative, and high-energy social investment broker skilled in securing the necessary resources, relationships, and systems to create meaningful change. Her subject expertise include homelessness, early learning, arts, youth development, and District of Columbia politics.

He’s currently pursuing with MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Marketing from The John Hopkins Carey Business School. Previously, she served as a Communications and Advocacy Consultant at UNICEF and the National Emergency Response Council on HIV/AIDS. She earned a BA in journalism from Marquette University and an MPH in Health Communication from The Johns Hopkins University. AJ is also a past-president of the South Asian Bar Association of Washington DC (SABA-DC). More recently, AJ serves on the Executive Board of the South Asian Bar Association of North America and on the Board of Directors of the Washington Council of Lawyers. Having a stable place to live and daily living essentials is life-changing for survivors, many of whom have been in crisis for a long period of time, in some cases living out of a car with their children.

In 2020, DASH was awarded a grant from the DC Department of Human Services to launch a new program for transitioning youth (aged years) who are survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. Like all of DASH’s survivor-centered programs, it is low-barrier, voluntary, and trauma-informed. DASH provides access to safe housing options and comprehensive services to ensure that no survivor has to become homeless as a result of abuse, whether it be domestic or sexual violence. DC SAFE is the only 24/7 crisis intervention agency for domestic violence in Washington, DC. Our mission is to ensure the safety and self-determination of domestic violence survivors through emergency services, court advocacy, and system reform.

As in many domestic violence shelters, children comprise the largest population in MSP’s shelter. Sanctuary Plus provides children’s programming to help youth survivors safely express and heal from their trauma. We support partner agencies in the national capital region and throughout the United States in increasing their capacity to assist survivors in accessing safe housing. DASH educates policy makers and service providers nationwide on the principles and best practices of successfully assisting survivors of domestic violence in recognizing that they are empowered and whole. RISE Plus is our transitional-to-permanent housing program that extends rental support for up to two years. Like in RISE, survivors in RISE Plus receive intensive case management and wraparound supportive services, including workforce development, empowerment coaching, art therapy, and other trauma-informed care.

My Sister’s Place (MSP) shelters, supports and empowers survivors of domestic violence and their children, while providing leadership and education to build a supportive community. We also accept direct referrals from individuals and other service providers. Our in-house resources and services include Case Management, Safety Planning, Shelter Placement, and Help with Legal Needs.
